The course will start at 8.30am and end at 5.30pm.
NOTE: please bring a sack lunch.
The Level 1 Course is the basic referee’s course. It covers the following:
- referee’s priorities
- provides an introduction to the Laws of the game
- risk management as well as examining scrums, rucks/mauls, tackles, line-outs, offside and advantage with focus on the critical aspects of the game and how to referee them.
The course does not go through the Laws of the game page by page. There is an open book test at the end of the course which students are invited to take. The test will be marked on the day so you will know when you leave whether or not you have passed. Where you do not give the correct answer to a question (s), you are given the opportunity to review your answers and re-submit your test paper. It is unusual for people not to pass with this style of test, so you are encouraged to take it.
Attendees will need to wear comfortable clothing suitable for both classroom and on the field practical sessions.
The fee for the course will be $50, payable online at www.usarugby.org (click on the referee option in the left option bar, then choose the registration for a referee course button). It is required to be a current member of USA Rugby, commonly known as CIPP.
