Match Reports – March 12, 2011

A week of rugby in all its glorious varieties. Not as loud as other weeks, but producing some big games, close finishes, and interesting conversation points. And they are just with Chris Gleiter’s games! The Southern California Division 1 table is bunched up and providing meaningful games from the first whistle to the last – exciting and close. This week showed some big wins by traveling teams – UCLA Women, CSU Fullerton, UCSB, and SDSU. Another tight game in the Eastern Sierra’s – is it the high altitude keeping the scores close?

Six Nations Referee Replacement Mid-Game

“the protocol for such a replacement is well understood and the switch performed flawlessly”

Referee Roman Poite had been replaced because of a calf injury by assistant referee Jérôme Garces to complete the match. This is the first time a referee has been replaced in the middle of a Six Nations International.

Referee Chris Pollock Hit From Behind – Super 15 Rugby

You know you’ll get a shot in the back every so often as a referee. We all know the feeling of getting your teeth rattled. New Zealand referee Chris Pollock shook off a big hit in the Waratahs verses Crusaders match in the third round of the 2011 Super 15 Rugby season.

Match Reports- March 5, 2011

Big weekend of rugby throughout the Southland. The opening round of the CPD (College Premier Division) kicked off with three SoCal matches. And we had several referees manage two games back-to-back – 160 minutes of rugby on a nice warm day. And Chris G wins the Iron Man award – three matches! Update: Mike Adams ran three matches as well. Phew – I’m exhausted just reading that they ran three.
