Please help a fellow referee settle in California…john neiss

John Neiss is a member of the New York State Rugby Referees Society and will be relocating to San Diego in mid-November.  John is training to work his way onto the National Referee Panel and has chosen a move to California so that he may experience refereeing opportunities all-year round, something NYSRRS does not offer due to their extended winter break.

When John is not refereeing on weekends, he will need to be employed.  John is a food services professional having been involved in high food production and catering services.  If anyone has a lead, connections, or suggestions for John on where he can find full-time employment in the San Diego area (doesn’t have to be food, can be anything), please e-mail him at

John wants to be part of a referee culture where positive people do positive things for rugby – let’s do what we can to make his move and stay here possible!

A link to John’s resume is here for anyone who is able to help.

Referee Advice

Treat coaches and players in a courteous way. If they ask you a reasonable question, answer in a polite way. If they “get your ear” by yelling at you, interrupt and remind them of the reason for the discussion. Be firm but relaxed.
