USA Rugby announces an exciting Referee Track for the 2017 National Development Summit in Baltimore

Posted by Sigrid Valk-Feeney on December 18th, 2016

As rugby continues to grow in the USA from youth through to professional rugby, there are fundamental aspects of refereeing that can positively support the game, enhancing its appeal. Those concepts will be presented and detailed at the NDS in 2017 by USA Rugby’s High Performance Referee Manager, Richard Every. The Principles of Refereeing shares these best practices to overcome the ongoing struggle of variance amongst whistle blowers. In addition, the revolutionary new Rugby Referee Video Review System will be presented for the first time. The system utilizes the competencies from the Principles for accelerated and continued development from novice to professional. It is a continuous learning platform and provides an organized development structure for referees and reviewers.

Over the past five years, USA Rugby Referees have developed a great working relationship with the South African Referees Academy based in Stellenbosch. Shanagher-Morrison scholarship winners attend the Academy annually, where they have access to state of the art facilities supported by an unlimited number of matches, with real-time coaching and ongoing development. Hendrik Greyvenstein, Head of the Academy, will be presenting the features and benefits of the academy.

USA Rugby Referee Manager, Marc Nelson, will present Referee Pathways and introduce you to modern ways to support your refereeing through new available technology. Other presenters include USA Rugby Referees Selector and Appointments Officer, Riaan van Greuning, and USA Rugby National Panel Referees, Haylee Slaughter and Kurt Weaver. A Panel Discussion featuring top team coaches and referees will showcase the expectations between the parties, and how we can better forge working relationships, and includes Steve Lewis from Old Blue New York, Kurt Weaver and Richard Every.

The new Laws and the Game Management Guidelines will be presented to provide referees, team coaches and players a better and clearer understanding of the game.

The NDS Referee Track promises to provide you every aspect of rugby officiating in the modern game.

Regards
